Hope for a Hurting World

The Solution for Hurt-And all Things

More and more, as we look at the world around us, we see that people are hurting, they are lost and many times without hope, but I want to tell you–there is Someone Who loves you so much and He wants to hold you when you are hurting, show you the Way if you are lost and be the true source of Hope in your life.  Do you need the hope and peace and joy in your life that only He can give?  God’s amazing grace is available to all of us, through His Son Jesus and today He is calling you to it.

The truth is every person on this earth was lovingly created by our Heavenly Father.  He loves you and wants a relationship with each and every one of us.  But, there is a problem and that problem is sin.  It’s not a popular topic to talk about, but we only need take one look around us to see that sin is a real problem in this world.  It wasn’t part of God’s original plan, though.

Bad News

When He created the world, it was perfect.  There was no sin, until Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s one rule in the Garden of Eden.  God told them they could eat of any fruit in the garden except the fruit on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  If they did, they would “surely die.”  Long story short, they ate the fruit. (See Genesis 3)

Their act of disobedience brought sin into the world and with sin came death.  Adam and Eve did not physically drop dead when with the first sin, but they did surely experience death.  Sin brought with it a spiritual death.  They were separated from God.  Separation from God is the very definition of spiritual death.  God is Holy and cannot be around sin.  That is the reason why Adam and Eve had to leave the Garden of Eden and God’s presence.  God was Holy and they were not.   From then on, every single person who was born was born with a sinful heart and as a result of that sinful heart, every single person is born separated from their Heavenly Father.  (“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23) He is Holy and we are not.  Every one of us is born spiritually dead.

Good News!

Not a happy thought, but the good news is God did not leave us like that.  Almost immediately after that first sin, God had a plan to make a way for us able to have a relationship with Him.

Jesus was the Way.  Jesus is the Way. In fact, it is recorded in John 14:6, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'”

Because of God’s great love for us, Jesus came to earth and willingly paid the price for our sin when He gave His life on the cross.  See, that sin?  It is costly.  The payment for sin is death. (“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23) Jesus did not want us to have to pay for our own sin with our own death, so He paid for it with His.

Of course, Jesus did not stay dead.  No, He rose again and showed that He has the ultimate power over sin and death.  Because of His death and resurrection, we can be forgiven from our sins.

Great News!

We can come to Him, believing Who He is and ask Him to forgive our sins and He does. (“But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Not only that, but when He forgives our sins, He gives us new life.  Spiritually, we are made alive.  This is why we call it being “born again.” Romans 10:8-13) (See also John 3:1-21)  In fact, when we are forgiven and make Jesus our Savior and Lord, He makes us a completely new creation!

And all of this, my friends, is a result of God’s grace that is absolutely nothing short of amazing.

Your Response

So, what if you don’t yet have a relationship with God.  If you’re reading this right now, it is not too late!  That tug you feel on your heart is Him calling you.  Oh, friend, He loves you so much.  Don’t miss it.  Don’t miss this amazing gift of His grace in your life.  It can be yours.  All you have to do is believe and ask.

How? First, by admitting to God that you have sinned and broken God’s rules.  Our sinfulness is measured by comparing it to God’s holiness.  God knows we have broken His rules, but He wants us to admit that we have and then to ask for forgiveness for it.

Next we believe that Jesus is who He said He is.  That He died on the cross in our place, and when we recognize that and ask Him to forgive us, He becomes our Savior.

Finally, we confess that He is our Savior and our Lord.  We acknowledge that He saved us from the punishment and payment of our sin and we make Him the boss of our lives.

We do all these things simply by praying.  You can do that know.  You can pray a very simple prayer like the one below.  There is nothing magically or special about the words themselves, but it is the attitude by which we pray them that matters.  Won’t you experience His amazing grace today.

Dear God, I know I have sinned and have broken Your rules.  I know that sin has separated me from You.  I ask You to forgive my sin–to wash it completely away.  Thank you, Jesus, for dying on the cross for me and paying the price for my sin.  I thank You that You rose again and are alive today. Thank you that I can now have a relationship with You because I am completely and totally forgiven.  I give my life completely to you.  Today, I confess You as my Savior and my Lord.  Thank you Jesus for everything you’ve done for me.  Amen.
