As we enjoy this season of thanks, let’s take some time to give thanks to God during each of the days leading up to the holiday and, of course, on that day. Welcome to Day 10:
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and praise His name. For Yahweh is good, and His love is eternal; His faithfulness endures through all generations.” Psalm 100:4-5
If you’ve been here throughout this series, you have been flexing your “thankfulness” muscles over the last week and a half and you are fully ready for today—a whole day dedicated to expressing thanks to our God.
So, now that you’re a seasoned veteran of gratitude, what do you do now?
Drag other people in with you, of course. Gratitude is contagious and, if you’ll be seeing folks today, share it with them!
Here are some ideas on how you can do that:
*Take time to pray together and thank God for what He has done.
*Do the old stand-by—go around the table and take turns saying telling something for which you are thanking God.
*Get a white tablecloth and some permanent markers and have everyone sign it and write or draw something for which they are expressing gratitude. Reuse it each year and add to it bit by bit.
*Give thanks Laura Ingalls style-put a few dried corn kernels by each plate and after dinner tell an item you are thankful for with each one.
*Write items or which you are giving thanks on separate small pieces of paper and put them into a jar. Throughout the year, pull them out to read to remind yourself, or add to it throughout the year and read the papers next Thanksgiving.
*Take some time privately to express your thanks to God.
I am sure there are millions of other ideas out there you can go with this Thanksgiving Day. It doesn’t have to be fancy or time consuming, just full of praise and thanksgiving. That is, after all, what this day is all about!
Dear Precious Heavenly Father, on this day I especially want my heart to rise in thanksgiving to You for all You do. I would have nothing in my life if not for You and I thank You for each breath I breathe, each song You’ve put on my lips, each gift You bring into my life—big and small. May I remember to thank You, truly thank You this day and every day. Amen.
Thanks for sticking with me for this series and I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!
