“A gentle tongue is a tree of life.” Proverbs 15:4
Have you ever had the privilege to be around an encourager? Aren’t they like a balm to your soul?
As soon as she could talk, one of my daughters started regularly encouraging me. “Mommy, you are doing a great job mopping that floor.” “Mommy, you are the best mommy ever.” “Mommy, you make the best food ever and you help me to be brave.” I mean, really, could this girl get any sweeter?
Oh, some days when the plague of discouragement is sitting strongly on my heart and my daughter comes in with one of these random encouragements, I can literally feel life being breathed into my weary soul.
Oh, what a gift when we can speak life to another person.
Proverbs 15:4 says, “A gentle tongue is a tree of life.” When we speak kindness, when we speak love and grace, when we speak encouragement, we are speaking life to the recipient.
I don’t know about you, but I want to use my words to be a gentle balm onto someone’s soul, don’t you? I know I don’t always do that. Often there is criticism dripping from my tongue, and boy does that bring destruction.
But to speak life? To build up? That is what I desire.
What power we have with our words. I pray we can use them wisely and use them to bring life.
Lord Jesus, please help me to use my words to breath life into those in my path. Help me to encourage and build up. Help me to speak Your words of love with speech that is “full of grace and seasoned with salt.” Amen
