Materials: Pieces of paper with the verses listed below written on them. Each paper will have a symbol on it, star, heart, square, etc, a basket, papers with the symbols on them (cut apart and placed in the basket), tape.
Directions: Before play, cut apart verses and tape one verse to each chair and, without the kids seeing where you. Place enough chairs for every child in a circle facing out and have the kids walk around the chairs while you play music (like musical chairs). When the music goes off, they should find somewhere to sit. When all the kids are sitting, draw a shape from the basket and the child who is sitting in that chair can read the verse, or ask a leader to read it. (You might consider awarding a small prize to the kids who sit in the chairs that match the shape you draw.) Play continues until all the shapes have been drawn and the verses have been read. The kids can all play until the game is over. No one has to be “out.” You could play it that way, but the kids will probably pay better attention to the verses being read if they are still in the game.
