We can do all things through Christ Who gives us Strength!

“I can do all things through Christ Who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13

There was a time, not so very long ago, when I did not believe Christians should feel stress. I didn’t believe it was possible. Ha! If my life were a movie and that was a scene in it, that line would definitely be followed by some creepy foreshadowing-type music.

Now, I understand that stress is your body’s reaction to things and you can’t help that. It is affected by so many different things, internally (hormones and vitamin levels) and externally (work projects, environment). Feeling stress is not something we have control over it.

What I’m learning (and forgetting and then re-learning) is though we can’t help feeling stress, we can help focusing on it.

Lately the thing that causes me the most stress is the fear of defeat. The fear that I just cannot do the things I need to do. That I cannot keep my house clean. That I cannot finish the things I have to do for work. Those thoughts STRESS ME OUT folks! And, I decided today I would very much like to be done with it.

Today, I “remembered” a promise God has spoken in His Word. I say “remembered,” because I didn’t really forget it–I just forgot to apply it to my life. Duh!

“I can do all things through Christ Who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13

Yup.

That’s it.

So simple.

And, so, so true.

I can do ALL things. I can finish every lesson I need to write for the summer because He will give me the strength to do it. I can take care of my family in an efficient, loving and attentive way and I can even care for the “little” tasks that must be accomplished. I can do those things, because He will give me strength. I know this, because He has been more than faithful over and over again many times in the past. Always, after the fact, I wonder why I didn’t just trust Him from the beginning.

But, now? Now I am going to try very hard to trust Him from the start. To trust Him that He will keep this promise. That I can do all things and I don’t need to fret about the tasks I have before me and I definitely do not need to feel defeated or focus on the stress (which just makes it grow like water on Gremlins).

Maybe you’re way ahead of me, friend, and you have not gone about this in a backwards way, as I have. Awesome! I hope to be more like that very soon. But, maybe you are in the same boat as me and you need this reminder today as well. If so, let’s do this together. Let’s go out and remember that whatever we are facing, big or small, we “can do all things through Him Who gives us strength.” What an amazing blessing and what awesome power we have available to us. Praise be to God for offering it to us!

Heavenly Father, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for giving us this amazing promise! Help us to remember how powerful, faithful and good You are that You graciously offer Your strength to us when we are weak. Help us to remember this precious promise as we face the tasks and trials that lay ahead of us. You are so amazing to think of us and care for us in this way. Amen!
