Sow Little Investments–Reap Great Rewards!

“A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. He who has ears, let him hear.” – Matthew 13:3-8 (NIV)

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7

The Law of the Sower—you reap what you sow— applies in all aspects of life. Whether it’s in a 401k account, or in relationships (which are infinitely more important), the investments we make will grow and multiply over time.

It is astounding to me how interest piles up. Retirement and savings accounts are amazing in that you can regularly put in little amounts and watch that number grow and multiply over the years until it accumulates into something of great value.

There are tasks we do, little by little, every day that will return major dividends later on. The times I spend playing Candyland with my 5 year old will grow and strengthen our relationship. My willingness to listen to my son talk for hours (days?) about his Minecraft creations paves the road for him to talk to me about more important topics as he grows older. Providing my children regularly with love, security and the other things they need to survive provide a way for them to see God as their ultimate provider and trust Him for what they need.

All the little things add up to great big things.

My life, and probably yours, are filled with these little tasks that seem pretty meaningless, but none of them are. If we invest our time, energy and resources into what’s important—the lives of the people around us—we will see that investment reap great benefits down the road.

Nothing is wasted in God’s economy.

Oh and what blessings the days of those harvests will bring when we reap the rewards of all of our labor, little and big!

Jesus, help me to remain faithful in the little things, because I know that the little things are investments that will grow into huge things! Thank You that You never waste a single thing! Multiply what I do for You, Lord. Amen
