A Treasure Found

“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

A Treasured Find

While browsing in a local antique shop one day, I spotted this Bible. My oldest daughter, who was with me, fell in love with it, but she didn’t have quite enough money to buy it that day. Over the next few months she saved until she had enough and we went back and bought it.

This was one well-loved Bible

God’s Word is a Treasure

In both of our eyes she had acquired a treasure. God’s Word is a treasure in and of itself, but there was something so special and sacred about holding one that was well loved and well used by a woman living so long ago. Someone we had never met, but felt connected with through our mutual faith in Jesus.

The Inscription on the inside of the front cover says, “Presented to my Dear Wife, Annie by her husband Charles. Dec. 25 1884

Do we love our Bibles like Annie loved this one?

Here with this treasure, though, is a challenge to all of us who claim His name. Do we love our Bible the way this was loved? Do we treasure it the way this was apparently cherished? Most importantly, do we use our Bibles? This Bible was obviously used and I’m sure Annie’s life was blessed by spending time in God’s Word. Our lives will be blessed as well. Spend some time today and every day in your copy of God’s Word. It is an investment of time that will last into eternity.

I love all the marks and notes–perhaps a lifetimes worth.

This newspaper clipping was in the Bible. Some great advice here.

Dear Jesus, may I treasure Your Word as the wonderful, priceless gift it is. May I read it, study it and store it in my heart, that I may both know and honor You in all I do. Thank You for such a precious gift to Annie and to all of us. Amen!
