Victory in Jesus

“I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

“Because whatever has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith.” 1 John 5:4

“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.” John 16:33

Before I even opened my eyes, I felt it–defeat. Weighing down on me. Making me want to give up before my day had even begun. Overwhelming me, once again, to the point of despair.

I had gone to bed with a mountain of work still waiting for me and, likely, not enough time in my day to get it all done.

Just one of those days. One of those days when I want to give up and stay in bed all day.

But, I got up.

Ya know why? Because my feelings are not always to be trusted. In fact, they often lie to me. Do you know what can be completely trusted at all times? God’s Word. And His Word trumps my feelings every single second of every single day–even, or maybe especially, on a day like today.

The truth of God’s Word tells me that I “am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.” It tells me that faith “is the victory has conquer[ed] the world” and it tells me that I “will have suffering in this world,” but I can be brave, because Jesus has “conquered the world!”

I do not have to feel defeated, because, I am not. Quite the opposite, actually. I am a victor! God’s truth far outweighs any of my feelings, and when my feelings don’t line up with what God says, I need to change my mindset to match the truth in His Word.

Easier said than done, sometimes, but with practice it (mostly) is getting easier.

He is so good to share His truth with us and so very amazing to give us this amazing victory to face each day and each task with confidence, knowing we have already won!

Lord Jesus, I praise You for your Holy Word today! I know I often let my feelings get in the way of hearing Your truth and it causes me grief, but Your Word shines a light on my dark and desperate places and shows me how things really are. Thank you for giving me hope in all things and for giving me victory through You in this world and the next! I love You! Amen
